Make-up trends for Spring/Summer 2012 are very flattering and feminine.

One look which is beautiful and can be adapted to suit any occasion is as follows:

1. Apply base products to create a dewy skin
2. Slightly flush cheeks using a delicate shade of blusher
3. Apply black liner finely along top lash line
4. Lots of mascara on top lashes
5. False half lashes to create fullness at the outer edges of the eyes
6. Emphasise eyebrow shape
7. Finish with a pale, pretty pink lip gloss

To adapt this look:

• Swap pale pink for a red lipstick – great for the evening
• Try a white/silver coloured metallic shadow on eyelids
• Create cat-like eyes when applying black liner – start at middle of top lash line and create a winged effect at the outer lashline
• Apply individual lashes at the outer corners to give a longer, fuller effect.

This look doesn’t have to be dramatic using only black, but can create a softer appearance using greys or for example, an aubergine colour.

If you don’t have the exact colour you want in your make-up bag, don’t be afraid to experiment, mixing a couple of colours you do have together, such as adding grey shadow to purple, can create a really flattering shade of colour.

When using dark eye shadow colours (especially black), ensure you tap the loaded brush before applying to the eyes, to prevent fall out on to the cheeks. Some people do their base make-up after their eyes for this reason.

1) Apply your chosen shadow colour along your top lash line and gradually blend upwards, until you have covered the lid of your eyes. Ensure that it is properly blended , so there are no hard edges. Once you’ve applied with a brush, cotton buds are great for softening any hard edges.

2) Apply either a black or grey kohl pencil to the inside rims of both the top and bottom of the eye, ensuring you go right into the inner corners to get the shape.

3) Along the top lash line, you can use either a liquid liner, kohl pencil or a gel liner, applied with a slanted, flat bristled brush, right into the lashes along the top lash line to avoid any gap between your lashes and where your liner starts. Kohl pencil can be smudged with a cotton bud to soften the line.

4) Then use a flat slanted eyeliner brush (tap loaded brush first) and apply eye shadow along top lash line and then along the bottom lash line, softening line with a cotton bud, ensuring the top and bottom corners meet; you can then create a flick, should you want too.

5) Apply two coats of mascara and curl lashes.

6) Define brow shape using either a eyebrow pencil or shadow in the colour of your eyebrows, using light feathery strokes.

To create a more glamorous look, apply either strip or individual false lashes.

1. Attend wedding fairs in your home town. Start with finding out if your venue is planning a wedding fair and then researching the same for hotels in the local area. You’ll get to meet and chat to people in local, wedding related businesses for every area of the wedding industry and get to look at their work – face to face contact that you wouldn’t get if you book straight from the internet.
2. If you are unable to attend yourself, arrange for a close friend or relative to pick up information/flyers and to write comments on each of who they think are really good and may be right for you.
3. If your bridesmaids are located all around the country, arrange a hen do in your home town and use the time that you are together to also arrange dress fittings, hair and make-up trials etc.
4. If weekends are the only time you can visit owing to work commitments, arrange appointments well in advance with wedding businesses, as this is their busiest time and schedule several appointments on the one day to make the most of your time.
5. If you are looking for a wedding supplier but unable to find what you are looking for or unsure who to choose, then ask a wedding business you have booked, as even if it is in an unrelated area, many wedding businesses that have been around a while, will be able to recommend people to you.
6. Once you have your recommendations and know who you want to book, make sure you do so well in advance, as dates, certainly during the Summer months, book up very fast. If you leave it and can’t get the people you want, it may be very time consuming researching alternative companies.

1. Looking good starts with good skin care. If your skin looks great then you’re part way there to looking fabulous. For many women, skin becomes drier – so keep your skin hydrated by using a good moisturiser with a sun protection factor. Also consider using a night cream and eye cream.
2. Using a sheer foundation will feel really light on your skin and will even out your skin tone, making it look fabulous.
3. Lightening and brightening around the eye area will make a huge difference, because as we get older, skin can look quite dull and darker around the eye area. Using a brightener such as Touche Eclat or similar under the eyes and in the inner corners of the eyes will give an instant lift to the eye area, making you look alert and wide awake.
4. Eyelids can droop as women get into their late 50’s and beyond, so use a light colour on the eyelids and a darker colour around the brow bone, remembering to blend well. This will open the eyes up, making them look bigger and your droopy eyelids won’t be visible.
5. Don’t forget blusher, as we can lose a lot of colour as we get older and applying blusher will instantly make you look healthy.
6. Eyebrows can really help to define the face. Keep them nicely shaped and even if they are very thin and the brow hair has not grown back from over-plucking years ago, use a brow brush in an eye shadow the colour of your brows and apply using light, feathery strokes to define your brow shape.
7. Lips get paler and thinner, so use a natural coloured pencil first of all to give the lips some definition and to stop your lipstick from bleeding.  By going for a brighter lip colour this will be really flattering and will give you an instant lift.
8. Keep the same tones together – so decide whether you are going for example for cool tones such as pinks/purples or the warm tones of peaches and cream.

May be you wear little or no make-up or you’ve had a bad experience, where the result wasn’t quite what you had hoped, then let me put your mind at rest.

When I’m chatting with brides there are several questions/comments that I often get asked about:

“Do I really need wedding make-up?”

Your wedding day look is very glamorous compared to what you would normally wear. Think of your dress and how you are having your hair; your make-up is the finishing touch to your overall look on your wedding day. Without it, it’s very easy to look pale and washed out, but even a natural make-up will ensure you look healthy and radiant on your photographs and will make you look and feel special, giving you an inner confidence that will last the whole day through.

“I’m thinking of getting a friend/relative/friend of a friend to do my make-up”

This can put you in an awkward position if you don’t like the make-up look and have then got to let them down gently or risk a bad atmosphere/falling out or say nothing, but spend the day wishing you hadn’t agreed to the idea.

“I don’t usually wear make-up so I’m concerned it will be too heavy”

Make-up products now are very sheer, feel light on the skin and give a fabulous natural finish. By enhancing your natural features, people will comment on how amazing you look.

To help you define the style of make-up you are after, cut out pictures from magazines of make-up looks you like and take them with your to your make-up trial.

“With the stress of the wedding, I find I’m coming out in spots regularly”

Don’t worry, this is very common with the stress of organising a wedding and happens a lot to brides, but it is easy enough to cover blemishes so your skin looks great and no one will know they’re there. On the photos, you will be amazed at how immaculate your skin looks.

“My skin is so sensitive, there are very few products I can use”

If you know the ingredient you are allergic to, then it is easy enough to check beforehand whether products contain this ingredient. If you don’t, then if you know whether a certain brand causes a reaction, then obviously that brand can be avoided. If not, this is another reason why it is vitally important to have a trial to check whether the products are fine on your skin. If, however, your skin is really sensitive and you would rather your own products be used, which you totally trust, then that is fine.

With all the ‘to do’ lists written to ensure your wedding runs smoothly, sometimes your last minute beauty treatments can be forgotten.  So, I’ve put together 6 top tips to ensure you look amazing and feel relaxed on your wedding day.

1. Get yourself into a good basic skin care routine as soon as you can, so that by the time your wedding comes around, your skin is in the best possible condition.
2. Have any waxing done the beginning of the week of your wedding, so any pinkness to the skin has disappeared.
3. Nicely shaped eyebrows will make a huge difference to your overall look and will really open your eyes up.
4. If you have blond or red hair, consider having your lashes and brows tinted.  It will really help to emphasis your eyes naturally and lasts 3 to 4 weeks.
5. Have a manicure and pedicure late afternoon on the day before your wedding, when you have done everything you need to do and can just relax and let your varnish dry thoroughly.
6. When everything is done the day before your wedding, consider having a massage to help you unwind and relax.

Hi,

With having years of experience in the wedding industry, there are lots of top tips I can give you that will ensure your wedding morning runs smoothly.

1. If there are several of you having your hair and make-up done on the day, draw up a timetable with names and timings for each, so you make best use of time on the morning, as it goes so quickly.  Don’t put yourself last, as this can be stressful, if you see everybody else ready before you are.
2. If you are going to a hair salon, give yourself plenty of travelling time.  Book an early appointment and if there are a group of you, ensure you have several stylists booked, so time does not run over.
3. Give yourself a clear hour after your hair and make-up is finished to just relax, put your dress on and see the registrar, if it is a civil ceremony.
4. If you are wearing a corseted dress, ensure the person who is lacing it up for you has a lesson with the assistant at the dress shop on how to lace it up correctly, as this can be quite stressful and time-consuming, which you don’t need in the last hour before you leave.
5. If you have young bridesmaids, put their dresses on at the last minute possible to avoid food or drink spilling over themselves.

What would I use skin camouflage for?

Camouflage products can be used to conceal acne scars, psoriasis, flushing/blushing, vitiligo, birthmarks, port wine stains, rosacea, scarring, cover tattoos etc.

What is skin camouflage?

Camouflage products are designed to conceal the above, but at the same time, look very natural on the skin, blending with the surrounding skin tone, so they do not look noticeable.  This gives people the confidence to face the world and greatly increases their self esteem.

How do I know which products and shade of colour are best for me?

With a skin camouflage consultation, a colour match, using a product range best suited to your needs will be found.  Tips and techniques for application will be shown, as well as details on where products can be obtained.

How easy is it  to become part of my daily routine?

With practice, like anything, the quicker and more experienced you will become.

How long does it last?

Camouflage products will last for up to 8-12 hours on the face and up to 2-3 days on limbs.

I’m going on holiday, will I be able to use camouflage products?

Yes, you can.  Non-oil based sun protection can be applied under camouflage.  You can also swim whilst wearing camouflage products, as they are waterproof.  You just need to remember to pat the skin dry when you get out and not rub.  As your tan develops and the colour of your skin changes, camouflage creams can be mixed together to match your darker skin tone.

When camouflage products are used on the face, do they look heavy and artificial?

No, as you need only the smallest amount of camouflage cream for each application, you will be surprised how natural it looks on the skin, but still gives the desired coverage.

Can I still wear make-up over the top?

Yes, the rest of your make-up can be applied as normal.

10 Top Tips to Get Your Skin looking and feeling great

1. First of all, throw away any skin care products you don’t use or are past their recommended shelf life.
2. Choose a cleanser, toner and moisturiser suitable for your skin type and use daily.
3. If your skin is sensitive, ensure this is the over-riding factor you keep in mind when choosing your products.
4. Use products with a sun protection factor to protect your skin.
5. Exfoliate 1-3 times a week to give your skin a healthy glow.
6. If your skin is feeling particularly oily, use a deep cleansing mask on the oily areas to remove excess oil and give your skin a deep clean.
7. If your skin is feeling dry, use a hydrating mask on the dry areas to give your skin a surge of moisture.
8. You may want to invest in an eye cream and night cream in the evening, if you are over 25, in place of your day time moisturiser.
9. Removing your make-up every night need only take a couple of minutes and will leave your skin looking and feeling so much better.
10. Treat yourself to regular facials.
